The aim of the video contest is to get the teens and community actively involved by offering a grand prize of a full scholarship to Winners' Camp. Elements of the project include design of the contest website; compilation of all rules and regulations for the contest; html newsletter announcement; updates to Facebook Fan page and camp blog; announcement on home page of main website; marketing to local organizations; and creation of the YouTube Group that will display all of the final entries.
We just set up a basic Paypal-based storefront for Underwater Goddess. Customers can purchase greeting cards (packs of 6) or original works of art. This is an incredibly cost-effective solution for getting started with selling products or services online: set up a Paypal account, generate button code and product thumbnails, upload to the website, spread the word and start taking orders.
Using a Wordpress theme from Graph Paper Press, we set up a surf photo blog that includes lightbox widgets (the cool viewing effect in the galleries), paypal integration, and a custom slideshow header on the home page.
The Complementary Care Clinic (www.complementarycareclinic.com) provides an integrated approach to the healthcare needs of Oahu communities. This Kailua clinic has services in Physical Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation, Athletic Training, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Qi Gong Therapy.
The design is shared by three practitioners, and the 8-page site includes downloadable pdf intake forms, integrated Google Maps and a page editor so that the therapists can update their own individual pages.
Symmetry (http://www.acupunctureinhawaii.com) is an established Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine clinic in Honolulu. Features include a simple Picasa-integrated photo gallery, Google Maps, .pdf downloads of research articles, a basic content management system for easy updates to the site, and a dramatic design. I've included here the home page plus a sample of a sub-page.
The Hawaii Rolfing website, one of the first websites I put together, was long overdue for a major facelift. The original color scheme was kind of 'clunky' and the layout looked like it was made with tables (although it wasn't).
I softened the colors and created a more civilized structure, while maintaining a continuity with the previous design (simple, straightforward). The information was reorganized as well.
Hawaii Rolfing has had impressive success within the Google Search Engine. The site consistently has been on the first page of Google for most searches in most combinations (Hawaii Rolfer, Find a Rolfer in Hawaii, Rolfer Kailua and even Best Rolfer in Hawaii!).
We've added a new page layout to www.fcmhi.com that integrates well into the rest of the site. This is a good example of a site evolving over time to meet the needs of the business: we're refining the look of the site and continuously optimizing for search engines. The goal is to be on the first page of Google results for Hawaii Wedding Videography: the site has so far steadily climbed from the seventh page to the third page.
*Note: As of April 28th, 2009, the website is on page 1 of Google search results for "Hawaii Wedding Videographer".
*Note: As of September 30, 2009, we've set up a new Flash site for this company under the new name, Prince7 Studios. The older html site was taken offline.
Sarah Kerwood-Joseph created beautiful multimedia mermaid art. We set up a Flickr Gallery to capture how beautiful these mermaids are.

*Sarah left us October 11, 2009. We will deeply miss her but know that her love, presence, art & friendships are so much stronger than the sadness of her passing. We love you Sarah!!! Aloha
Q-Card Tips was originally a site that was built entirely on a shopping cart platform. We took the basic concept and created an informational site with an integrated Paypal shopping cart. At the present time, there is only one item (The Original Q-Card Tips) featured on the site, but plans are in the works to develop more Q-Cards. This site will easily allow for future expansion and updates.
This week we put together an online community for Kapuaokalani: Academy of Hawaiian Soulistic Healing. The forum is a great addition to the Kapuaokalani website because it allows all of the Lomilomi practitioners and students of Hawaiian culture to meet, network and share ideas. Kumu Karen wanted a place for everyone to communicate easily with each other, and I wanted it to be as user-friendly as possible. It is completely integrated within the website as an 'online community'
Sea of Green, LLC is a commercial landscape management company that has been doing business in Hawai'i for 30 years. The finished site features a Flash slideshow on the homepage, a contact form, live links to professional affiliations, and a downloadable, fillable .pdf for prospective employees.
A javascript photo gallery was also implemented into the site to showcase their work.
Winners' Camp has been utilizing an award-winning site that was launched approximately 10 years ago, and through the years bits and pieces have been added on by a myriad of employees and volunteers. The site ended up being congested with internal links, and pages had a 'tacked on' look without consistency in style. That being said, the community cares for and respects Winners' Camp, and the desire was to create a site that remained consistent to the image. An additional challenge was the current transitional name change from Winners' Camp to Hawaii Leadership Academy.
The new site was specifically designed to appeal to teenagers as well as parents. Features include audio, an animated sidebar, updated photos, and an intuitive navigation system. Google Maps is integrated, as well as a Paypal Donation page.
The Healing Source (www.thehealingsourcekailua.com) is a therapeutic massage clinic located in downtown Kailua. The images used are on-site photos of the treatment rooms and reception area combined seamlessly with some carefully chosen stock photos. The site includes bios of each therapist, a Google map locater, a complete list of services offered, and contact information.
A one-page business card website for a local company that specializes in small powerboat and sailboat repair.
This project is an ongoing labor of love for Kumu Karen Leialoha Carroll. I met Kumu Karen a number of years ago, and put together a basic site for her using iWeb. It was extremely slow-loading, and we decided to work together to do a complete site redesign, building it properly in Dreamweaver. The goal was to create a clean look for the site, with a simple navigation system. This is an informational site, where visitors not only can get basic information about Kapuaokalani, but also can learn about traditional Hawaiian Lomilomi and Hawaiian culture.
We also did a mirror site in Japanese, because Kumu Karen has strong ties with her Japanese students. There is a nice Flash-based photo gallery (sourced from Search-This.com) and a simple contact form.
The site is located at www.kapuaokalani.com.
